Palestine, The holy land for Jewish, Muslim, and Christian…

Everytime when there is war between Israel and the Palestinians for the umpteenth time, the world  communities always help Palestine by sending aid.

Even the extreme wing did not hesitate to distribute aid in the form of war fighters to expel the invaders.

Ironically, when the daredevil warriors that were sent by the states or organizations arrived in Palestine, they were confused. Why? Because when their villages and towns were bombarded by Israeli troops and tanks, the brave Palestinian people were only watched, while people who were afraid (there are many) choosed to run. And when the Israeli army suddenly attacked this brave  whatcher, this brave Palestenian residents  were only responded with rocks.

There are only  small part of groups  in  Palestina  who dare to fight with a considerable arsenal. They are  Hamas which controls Gaza, and the fataah which master  west bank. Ironically, the relationship between these two groups are not getting along.

Hamas attitude lately that reject aid in the form of Mujahid fighters  and choose the humanitarian aid are correct. Because if we read back the history of Palestinian-Israeli conflict, we will find many countries that intend to intervene military in resolving the problems in Palestine, it adds the burden of the Palestinian people.

The history began when the Ottoman Empire controlled the Arabian Peninsula for almost 500 years, including the Palestinian territories and Israel. We have to remember, that arab people thought  that this was an “occupation/colonization” just like the Roman Empire did before. So that the Arabs and the Jewish people  agreed to support the  British drove out Turkey because British promised independence from the “Turkish Occupation”. The desire to become an independent state has made them more trusted British than Turkey’s Muslim Caliph. In contrast, in the era before the Caliphate of Turkey, they didn’t consider Abbasyiyah Dynasty and the Umayyad Dynasty  who are also known in their inhumanity and cruelty in the slaughter of  the Prophet Muhammad’s family and grandson, as the occupies  just because they both are Arabs! Also,  they didn’t consider what Umayyad dynasty did in Spain  as an occupation just because they both are arabs!

What then happens,  The rich Jews of Europe began to buy land from the Turkish authorities with various advances and persuasions will build a city which of course would increase taxes for the ruler of Turkey and ofcourse British was involved.  At that time there was the dissension in the body of the Ottoman Caliphate, so that the Palestinians fell into British hands and was under British control. When the Nazis became powerfull in Germany, lots of Jewish immigrants from Europe came to Palestine, so that their numbers were double.

Along with the progress of the area under the capital of the Jews, the Arabs and Jewish settlers from many countries began to arrive. With so much capital and the increasing arrivals of European Jews, the land which was bought and controlled by jews  finally had become larger. Small-scale conflict began when the owners and landlords would prefer hiring Jewish people  than  Muslim Arabs.

Arab Muslims began to feel threatened due to  their existence and identity as “indigenous”. Arab population even more angry when the jew owners forbade  Arab people working in their factories and  their farms. In 1920 the Population of Arabs demonstrated  the injustice they felt. Anger continued to slaughter. In 1929 the Muslim Arabs killed 67 Jews.  Tension continued to lead the revolt in Palestine  1936-1939  (Source of  the year: Alex Ramses research).

After the talk that was held by the UNSCOP, Finally the people there agreed to the division of Jews state and arab state, namely Israel and Palestine, but unfortunately, the Arab League did not agree to the existence of these  countries . The military of Arab league  then intervened to help by coming to Palestinian territories which were passed by UNSCOP and began to invade Israel territories which in fact, was increase the problems of Palestinian. Because of the coming of arab League, most of the Palestine territories  were then actually annexed to Israel. More severe, arab league was defeated , and some of their territories were taken by Israel (Those were several areas of Egypt and Jordan. Maybe that’s why Egypt, syria, Jordan, are more quietly now). Since this incident,  the Palestinian people can not articulate their sovereignty anymore.

However, as Muslims, we are taught that, the injustice which is inflicted on us should not make us turn away from having  the fair view. We are also taught that if there was a dispute between Muslims and non Muslims, we are forbidden to defend one of the parties based on religious equality regardless of the facts and problems. Proverbial, if we encounter an accident, would we just going to check his/her wallet and ID card just to ensure whether the person is Muslim / Jewish / Christian/ atheist  before helping? Of course, we will soon help him/her without wondering his/her religion. Likewise what is happening in Palestine, which the root is actually the conflict between natives and immigrants who purchased land from “former  ruler” whose numbers and powers   were then  exploded  over the indigenous population (similar case with  American-Indian and Australian-Aboriginal) . In fact, 20% of Israel people are Muslims, and the number is continued to increase…

So many Muslims who believe that when a person is a  Jew or descendants of the Jew, then he is wrong. In any case the Jews must  be wrong. If there is a dispute between Jews and Muslims, then the Jews must be wrong. No need to see the problem and the fact, just the Jews must be wrong and evil.

This point of view allows us to become  unfair. When we always defend one of the parties without going to learn the issues of a dispute, then we are people who do wrong and unfair. In the Arab-Israeli conflict there must be the mistake and the truth between the two sides.

Don’t we remember  that  Muhammad prophet SAW  had a Jewish secretary? Don’t we remember that Muhammad  SAW fast on the Jewish fast day after asking why Jews were fast on that day? (in the month of Muharram, when the  Moses freed the Jews from the cruelty of Pharaoh). Don’t we remember  that Muhammad prophet (PBUH)  loved the  Jewish beggar who spat on him every day, even Muhammad (PBUH) visited the Jew when one day the Jew did not spit on him because the Jew was  sick? Did we forget that  Khalifah Umar bin Khattab R.a. was very angry and  defended the  Jewish people because  their land were ondemned  replaced with a mosque by the local governour and then with the Khalifah Umar’s help, the jews got the land back and the mosque was destroyed?

Back to the Palestinian problem at the moment, what Hamas said that the Palestinians do not need the help of the Mujahid from other countries, must be respected. Maybe they fear the arrival of the mujahideen will add to the burden of the Palestinian people as well as the Arab League military. Most of  Palestinians need the humanitarian aid, social workers such as doctors, education workers, public sympathy and support of the world and of course, the UN and their Security Council. In this case the role of the United States and the UK is very influential.

I do believe the Palestinians one day will be free and at peace, provided that:

- If they want independence, and freedom from Occupation,  the entire Palestinian people; No matter they are Hamas, Fataah,  Muslims, Christians, or Jews even atheist who are still have the conscience, should be united. No one  is using the stone anymore. There is no more  a part to war, partly just to watch, while others to run. To win a war of independence, not necessary how many fighters we have, but the tactics are highly needed. For now, Everything has to do with strategy and tactics. For example, Vietnam and Indonesia guerrilla tactics  were worked well  to drive out the  colonialists and invaders (unfortunately, the Palestinians are not blessed with thick forests and steep cliffs, so their tactics of guerrilla are in the form of bunkers such as in Gaza).

However, the tactics and strategies to become independent without the war is more important. Because there will be no civilian casualties. Khalifah Umar Bin Khattab had ever liberated Palestine from Roman Empire without bloodshed..At this point, I am going to write the quote of Dina Sulayman, “The point out of this is, when the racist regime in South Africa could be toppled by international pressure, Israel’s racist regime could be overthrown in the same way. Please note this point: It is the zionist racist regime that has to be toppled. Not the Residents of Israel that have to be eliminated…but the zionist racist regime..“

Setiap kali tejadi peperangan antara Israel dan Palestina, Masyarakat dunia serempak mengirimkan bantuan. Bantuan dalam berbagai bentuk pun disalurkan. Bahkan yang beraliran ekstrem tidak segan-segan menyalurkan bantuan berupa pejuang perang untuk membantu mengusir penjajah. Ironisnya, ketika para pejuang berani mati yang dikirim oleh negara atau organisasinya tiba di Palestina, mereka bingung. Kenapa?   Karena ketika desa dan kota mereka dibombardir oleh pasukan dan tank  Israel,  Rakyat Palestina yang berani hanyalah menonton, sedangkan yang tidak berani memilih untuk lari. Dan ketika tentara Israel tiba-tiba menyerbu warga yang menonton, mereka hanya membalas dengan bebatuan.  Hanya ada sebagian kecil kelompok di Palestina yang berani melawan dengan persenjataan yang lumayan. Salah satunya hamas yang menguasai Gaza, dan fataah yang menguasai tepi barat. Ironisnya, hubungan antara kedua kelompok ini tidaklah akur.

Sikap Hamas akhir-akhir ini yang menolak mentah-mentah bantuan berupa pejuang Mujahid dan lebih memilih bantuan kemanusiaan adalah sudah benar. Karena jika kita membaca kembali sejarah konflik Palestina-Israel ke belakang, akan banyak kita temukan  negara-negara yang berniat ikut campur secara militer  dalam menyelesaikan masalah di Palestina, justru menambah beban rakyat Palestina.

Sejarah bermula ketika   Turki Usmani menguasai Jazirah arab termasuk wilayah Palestina dan Israel selama hampir 500 tahun lamanya.  Perlu dingat bahwa orang-orang arab  menganggap ini sebagai sebuah penjajahan. Sehingga orang-orang arab dan yahudi  setuju untuk mendukung sekutu mengusir Turki karena mereka menjanjikan  kemerdekaan dari “penjajahan Turki” . Keinginan untuk menjadi negara yang merdeka telah membuat mereka lebih mempercayai sekutu daripada Khalifah Turki yang Muslim. Padahal, pada jaman sebelum Kekhalifahan Turki memerintah, mereka menganggap Dinasti Abasyiyah dan Umayah  yang juga terkenal kebengisan dan kekejamannya dalam membantai cucu dan keluarga Nabi Muhammad, adalah bukan penjajah,  hanya karena mereka sama-sama Arab! Dan ketika Bani Umayyah menakhlukan Spanyol, itu pun juga bukan suatu penjajahan hanya karena mereka sama-sama Arab!

Yang kemudian terjadi, adalah orang-orang kaya Yahudi dari Eropa mulai membeli tanah dari penguasa Turki dengan berbagai rayuan akan membangun sejumlah kota yang tentu saja akan meningkatkan pajak bagi penguasa Turki. Ketika Nazi berkuasa di Jerman, semakin banyaklah pendatang yahudi dari Eropa sehingga jumlah mereka menjadi berlipat. Pada waktu itu, terjadi perpecahan di Kekhalifahan Turki sehingga Palestina berada di bawah kekuasaan dan kontrol Inggris.

Seiring dengan semakin majunya wilayah tersebut dibawah modal kaum yahudi, para pendatang arab maupun yahudi dari negara sekitar mulai banyak berdatangan. Dengan banyaknya modal yang masuk bersamaan dengan meningkatnya pendatang yahudi dari Eropa, tanah yang dibeli dan dikuasai oleh Yahudipun semakin luas. Konflik berskala kecil mulai terjadi ketika para juragan dan tuan tanah Yahudi lebih memilih mempekerjakan orang-orang yahudi ketimbang arab muslim.

Arab muslim mulai merasa terancam eksistensi dan identitasnya sebagai “pribumi”. Penduduk arab semakin marah ketika para juragan Yahudi melarang orang-orang arab bekerja di pabrik dan lahan pertanian mereka. Pada tahun 1920 penduduk arab melakukan demonstrasi atas ketidak adilan yang mereka rasakan. Kemarahan ini berlanjut kepada pembantaian. Pada tahun 1929 arab muslim membunuh 67 orang yahudi. Ketegangan berlanjut hingga menyebabkan terjadinya pemberontakan arab 1936-1939 di Palestina (Sumber tahun: Alex Ramses research). Setelah diadakan perundingan pembagian wilayah oleh UNSCOP, yaitu Palestina dan Israel, dan disetujui oleh penduduk di sana, akan tetapi Liga Arab tidak setuju. Lalu kemudian Liga arab ikut campur yang malah semakin menambah beban rakyat Palestina karena wilayah Palestina yang disahkan oleh UNSCOP malah dicaplok Israel karena invasi Liga arab.  dan Pihak Liga arab pun mengalami kekalahan dan kerugian dengan beberapa wilayah mereka pun direbut Israel (yang direbut adalah beberapa wilayah Mesir dan Jordania.  Mungkin itulah kenapa Mesir, syria, Jordania,  Saudi Arabia, lebih banyak diam sekarang). Sejak saat itu, rakyat Palestina tidak dapat lagi menyuarakan kedaulatannya. Dan hingga sekarang daerah ini terus berkonflik setelah beberapa kali mengadakan perundingan.

Akan tetapi, sebagai orang muslim,kita diajarkan bahwa kezaliman yang ditimpakan kepada kita tidak boleh membuat kita berpaling dari bersikap dan berpandangan adil. Kita juga diajarkan kalau terjadi pertikaian antara seorang muslim dan non muslim, kita dilarang membela salah satu fihak berdasarkan kesamaan agamanya tanpa melihat fakta dan permasalahannya. Ibaratnya, jika kita menjumpai sebuah kecelakaan, apakah kita hanya akan memeriksa dompet dan KTP orang tersebut untuk memastikan Islam/Yahudi/Kristen/atheiskah orang itu sebelum kita menolongnya? Tentu saja kita akan segera menolongnya tanpa penasaran apa agama orang itu. Begitupun apa yang terjadi di Palestina, yang awal mula sesungguhnya  adalah suatu konflik klaim wilayah antara pribumi dan pendatang yang membeli tanah dari “mantan penguasa” yang  jumlah dan kekuasaannya membludak mengalahkan penduduk pribumi (seperti halnya yang terjadi di Amerika-Indian dan Australia-Aborigin). Dan faktanya, 20% orang Israel adalah muslim dan terus meningkat jumlahnya.

Begitu banyak orang-orang Islam yang berpandangan bahwa ketika seseorang itu beragama yahudi atau keturunan bangsa yahudi, berarti dia itu salah. Dalam hal apapun orang yahudi itu pasti salah. kalau ada persengketaan antara orang yahudi dan orang Islam, maka orang yahudi tersebut pasti salah. Tidak perlu dilihat permasalahan dan faktanya, pokoknya yahudi itu pasti salah dan jahat.

Pandangan seperti ini membuat kita tidak pernah bisa bersikap adil. Ketika kita selalu membela salah satu fihak tanpa mau mengetahui duduk permasalahan sebuah pertikaian, berarti kita adalah orang yang zalim. Dalam konflik Arab-Israel sudah pasti ada kesalahan dan kebenaran pada masing-masing fihak.

Bukankah Nabi Muhammad SAW mempunyai sekretaris yahudi yang sangat terkenal? bukankah Nabi Muhammad SAW berpuasa pada hari orang yahudi berpuasa setelah bertanya kenapa yahudi berpuasa pada hari itu?? (pada bulan Muharram, ketika Umat yahudi dibebaskan Musa dari kekejaman Fir’aun). Bukankah Nabi Muhammad sangat mengasihi pengemis yahudi yang meludahinya setiap hari dan mengunjungi si yahudi ketika sakit? Bukankah Umar bin Khattab R.a marah dan  lebih membela rakyat Yahudi yang digusur tanahnya  dan digantikan dengan masjid oleh Gubernur setempat dan dengan bantuan Khalifah Umar, yahudi dapat memperoleh kembali tanahnya dan masjid pun digusur?

Kembali kepada masalah Palestina saat ini, apa yang dikatakan Hamas bahwa Palestina  tidak membutuhkan bantuan berupa para Mujahid dari negara-negara lain karena pejuang mereka sudah mencukupi, haruslah dihormati. Mungkin saja mereka khawatir kedatangan para mujahid akan menambah beban masyarakat Palestina seperti halnya militer Liga Arab. sekarang, yang paling dibutuhkan rakyat Palestina adalah bantuan kemanusiaan, bantuan pendidikan, pekerja sosial seperti para dokter, dan dukungan simpati masyarakat dunia dan tentu saja, PBB dan para DK-nya. Dalam hal ini peran serta Amerika Serikat dan Inggris sangat berpengaruh.

Saya percaya Palestina suatu saat akan merdeka dan damai, asalkan:

-  Jika mereka menginginkan kemerdekaan, dan bebas dari penjajahan,  Seluruh elemen masyarakat Palestina baik kristen, Islam, bahkan Yahudi dan atheis yang masih mempunyai hati nurani, Hamas maupun Fataah harus bersatu. Tidak ada lagi yang menggunakan batu. Tidak ada lagi yang sebagian berperang, sedangkan yang lain hanya menonton, atau lari. Untuk memenangkan sebuah perang kemerdekaan, bukan  diperlukan  berapa banyak pejuang  yang kita miliki, akan tetapi diperlukan taktik yang jitu. Semua harus dilakukan dengan strategi, taktik, seperti halnya taktik gerilya Indonesia dan Vietnam sehingga berhasil mengusir penjajah (sayangnya, Palestina tidak dianugerahi hutan-hutan lebat dan tebing-tebing curam, jadi taktik gerilya mereka berupa bunker-bunker seperti di Gaza).

Akan tetapi, taktik dan strategi untuk merdeka tanpa jalur perang adalah lebih utama. Karena tidak akan ada lagi korban sipil berjatuhan. Khalifah Umar telah mencontohkan bagaimana beliau membebaskan Yerusalem dan Palestina dari belenggu Kerajaan Romawi dengan taktik yang cerdas dan tanpa pertumpahan darah.

Dalam hal ini saya akan mengutip kata-kata Dina Sulayman, “Poinnya, bila rezim rasis di Afrika Selatan bisa tumbang dengan tekanan internasional,  rezim Israel yang rasis ini pun bisa ditumbangkan dengan cara yang sama. Tolong catat poin ini: rezimnya (Zionis) yang ditumbangkan, bukan penghuninya  yang dibasmi (dibunuh) sampai tuntas.”
